The Room Next Door: New Sandman Hotel

Post by

In ‘Enter Sandman,’ Metallica said to ‘sleep with one eye open, gripping your pillow tight.’ At any of the 50 Sandman Hotels located across Canada, the US and the UK, however, you can rest assured you’ll always sleep with both eyes closed, holding your pillow softly, enjoying its comfort and softness. Winner of the Pinnacle Award for hotel company of the year for their second time in 2017, the Sandman Hotel Group is an exquisite franchise, and we are thrilled to be working with them on their new location at 575 Cochrane Dr. in Markham.

You may have previously read—perhaps from us in fact—of hotels around the world made from surprising materials such as ice and salt. Since sand (or crushed rock or gravel) is a component of concrete, Sandman Hotels are, in a sense, made out of sand. Their management is probably wise, though, in considering ‘enjoyable, comfortable, and affordable accommodations in a friendly yet professional environment’ to be the stronger selling point for the chain. (The sturdiness of buildings made of sand can get a bad rap without a proper context!)

Right down the street from the Steeles Tech Campus (another current project site at MGI), this Markham Location is particularly great for those travelling for business. And for those seeking a generally sand-themed vacation, many beaches are reasonably close as well!  The site under construction is a 3.4-acre vacant lot located on the west side of Cochrane Drive, south of Highway 7. The Markham Sandman Hotel there will be a 6-storey building with slab-on-grade floor and no basement levels, totaling a gross floor area of 12,143 square meters.

With the work we put in on this project each day, we have no trouble finding the sandman ourselves come bedtime each night!
